Philip Akin - Director

Philip Akin has been acting and directing for over 30 years. In 2000, he was a founding member of Obsidian Theatre, Canada’s leading black theatre company, and has served as its Artistic Director since 2006. In this role, he has worked tirelessly to provide opportunities and guidance for emerging artists. In 2002, he was part of the team that launched the Obsidian Mentor/Apprentice Program, a one-of-a-kind program that has so far helped 31 black artists embark on exciting careers as directors, dramaturges, producers, production managers, lighting, set and costume designers with some of the most established performing arts companies nationwide.

Cameron Bailey is a Canadian film critic and festival programmer, who has been the artistic director of the Toronto International Film Festival since 2012Born in London, England to parents from Barbados, he spent his early childhood in St. James, Barbados before moving to Canada with his family at age eight. Educated at the University of Western Ontario, he worked as a film reviewer for Now, Canada AM, CBC Radio One, Take One and other publications before joining TIFF as a programmer.He also cowrote the screenplay for the 1997 film The Planet of Junior Brown with Clement Virgo, and wrote and directed the short film Hotel Saudade.He participated in the 2015 edition of Canada Reads, where he advocated for Kim Thúy's novel Ru.Ru won the competition.

Amanda Parris is an artist, educator, scholar and producer, as well as an accomplished actor and playwright. Descended from Grenadian and Venezuelan ancestry, Parris was born in London, England and raised on the south side of Jane Street in Toronto. Her plays have been staged at numerous theatre festivals in Canada and internationally. Her 2014 one-woman show, 32C a bus journey through Toronto tells the stories of three women and the baggage they carry.Over the course of her career, Parris has worked at The Remix Project and she is the co-founder of the alternative education organization Lost Lyrics. She is the host of  Exhibitionists on CBC Television and Marvin’s Room on CBC Radio 2.  She also writes a weekly column for CBC Arts.

Most recently, she created The Ride or Die Project, a multi-platform initiative that produces creative content inspired by women who support loved ones who are incarcerated. Parris has studied theatre at The Lee Strasberg Institute of Film and Theatre, Theatre Ontario, b current and York University and is currently working toward completing her M.A. degree in the Sociology of Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Her curriculum work was published in Rhymes to Re-Education, the first-ever Hip Hop education resource guide, created by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

Campanelli was first introduced to the MuchMusic viewers in 1996 as the winner of MuchMusic's 1994 MuchTemp contest. Originally he was nicknamed "The Temp" (or, famously, "Rick the Temp"). Campanelli has since been labeled "The Franchise" for his long tenure and high popularity while on MuchMusic. He was a MuchMusic video jockey, co-host of Much on Demand: Primetime, writer ofThe MuchMusic Countdown and co-host of The MuchMusic Radio Countdown.

Campanelli's final appearance on MuchMusic was August 26, 2005, on MuchOnDemand. He was subsequently announced as one of the reporters for ET Canada, a new Canadian licensee of Entertainment Tonight, which was launched on September 12, 2005.

In February 2016, Toronto radio station 102.1 the Edge announced that Campanelli will join the station as cohost with Fred Kennedy and Melanie Mariani of the station's morning show, beginning June 27.

Rick Mercer, Canada's top political satirist, returns to CBC Television in October, 2016 for season 14 of the RICK MERCER REPORT. Rick's weekly helping of topical satire, funny takes on the week's top stories, Canada wide adventures and famous rants have made this show a perennial audience favourite. Created by Mercer and Gerald Lunz, the show debuted in January 2004 as Rick Mercer's Monday Report and moved to Tuesday nights in 2005.
